Wii Fit Should Have a “Pregnant” Option

I never really liked our country’s obsession with BMI for the obvious reasons: it doesn’t take into account your bone structure, muscle vs fat ratio, or fitness level.

I’m probably biased against the BMI system because I have thick bones — my wrist circumference is 6″, which is in the thick range for my height. Heck, most women I know who are 6″ taller than me don’t even have 6″ wrists! So no matter how fit I am, I will still look bigger than most people of my height due to my (literally) big bones.

So yes, I am usually on the high range of the “normal” scale of the BMI chart. And I was fine with it…

…until this morning, when I decided to bust out the ol’ Wii Fit in my 22-weeks pregnant state.

As soon as the Wii Fit finished calculating my weight, it proceeded to BALLOON up my Mii (Wii avatar), and made sure to flash “Overweight” in big red letters.

Yes, yes. I’ve gained quite a bit of weight. And I already know that I’m on the high range for pregnancy weight gain as well. Thanks.

Wait…it got worse.

I don’t see “Pregnancy” as an option below, do you?

I decided to go with “I don’t know” to see what would happen, and got this:

My chubby Mii questioning my reasons for becoming such a fattie. Screw you.

But who am I to criticize a video game that is aimed at kids? After all, I was the one snapping these pictures instead of actually being on the Wii Fit board, working out my ever-expanding ass.

…I think I’ll lay off the Wii Fit until the baby is born.

I thought it was just me with the man-wrists! So good to know I’m not alone ;)

OMG. Wii is so rude. Tell it to STFU!

Oh my Holy dear Lord that just made me giggle…and get mad on your behalf…and then giggle!

Argh, I hate it when technology gets snarky with me! Good for you for at least TRYING to exercise, though — all I did during pregnancy was arm-lifts from cake plate to mouth….

Ugh, yeah, I felt the same way when I was pregnant. Complete with the smarmy "Why you so fat now?" interrogation. WiiFit Plus has a baby option, why couldn’t they have worked in a preggo option?

thats hilarious. my mii has been looking chubby lately too but sadly i don’t have a valid reason like you :)

hahaha, I just giggled so hard, my laptop almost fell. So cute, and I definitely agree they should have a pregnant option. Wonder if that comes with the wii fit plus? :)

Probably because Nintendo doesn’t want to make it seem like they’re encouraging pregnant women to stand on the Wii Fit board – maybe they think it would put them at risk for lawsuits.

They should probably have a "pregnant" option, but with an asterisk!

HAHAH!! I was probably not going to comment on this blog (although I HIGHLY enjoy your posts I feel … like I have nothing to say most of the time) but this.. this made me crack up and I just had to say thank you.

I am currently moving all of my belongs in boxes around my boyfriends room trying to find a space for all of it so he won’t stick my tubs/boxes in the garage. I am covered in sweat and I feel absolutely disgusting but I decided to take a break and read some more of your blog. I am sincerely glad I did, this really made my afternoon <3

But it’s true, I mean Wii Fit was designed for a slightly older class of gamers, I doubt most 13 year olds are using it. It would make sense to have "pregnancy" as a weight gain option. Silly Silly.

Thanks for the laugh and I LOVE your blog <3
