CSI: Seems Legit

I remember reading that shows like CSI are doing no favors for the judicial system, because jurors are demanding the highly improbable (and oftentimes quite costly) technological hocus-pocus that is seen on the shows.

I am often left having similar thoughts — “But they did it on ‘House’!” — during hospital visits and stays. :-D

This stuff also sucks as far as being a graphic designer. people forward a cellphone camera picture of a cocktail napkin sketch done with a caroyon during a rain storm at 200 pixels square and 75 dpi, and wonder why I have to charge 5 hours of work to redo it at a real size!

I have actually been told to just do that CSI photsho thing.

I think there is a video out there somewhere that mashes all the “enhance that” stuff from the crime shows. Hilarious stuff.

I had to stop watching CSI. The women with all their long flowing hair, dangling over corpses while they collected hair and fibers?! Um, you’d be collecting all your own hair!

And the lab scenes- as a molecular biologist, they are doing it ALL wrong. They don’t hold the pipets right, they use the wrong tubes, all their solutions for their super sensitive assays are in big beakers open to the air, their DNA sequencers work about 10000X faster than any available technology, the list goes on and on.

LOL. This is EXACTLY how I feel! Their lab techniques are horrendous. :-P

My personal favorites are in SVU when they once got a guys fingerprints off a picture not off the physical photo but they enhanced zoomed to get the fingerprints. And of course the famous hacking scene in ncis

haha! I also love this comic, “if TV science were more like real science”: http://www.phdcomics.com/comics.php?f=1156

    - especially the last grid about the robots. I worked in a lab with a robot we used for experiments and this happened all the time – as soon as the boss came in, it would stop working.

this is hilarious! i’m a big fan of csi & csi:miami, but there are a lot of factors in the show that are so unbelievable & i wish it were that easy in real life. oh well – good entertainment!

I have always found the computer forensic scenes in NCIS and etc almost comical. And I admit to loving me some Criminal Minds…but I will admit the “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” series is the first I have seen that seems to be right on the money with hacking! Things like having to rely on a friend with more expertise in a certain area are more realistic. No one hacker is like Morpheus and etc :P

Haha, this is awesome. I love all these shows, but figure they are pretty unrealistic. Otherwise, no one would get away with anything and no innocent person would ever go to jail.
