Giveaway: Win a Halloween Costume from HalloweenCostumes.com!

This giveaway has closed. Congratulations to Kelly Stadium, who entered by commenting! Please stay tuned for more giveaways in the future!

It’s October! The weather has cooled down, the leaves are changing colors, Starbucks is serving Pumpkin Spice Lattes again…

…and we are nearing one of America’s favorite holidays.

That’s right — Halloween is coming up in just a few short weeks! And if you do not yet have a costume, I have great news for you!

HalloweenCostumes.com has graciously offered to give one reader up to $75 worth of FREE costumes!

Their site, which is organized by sex, age, size, and even themes, features hundreds of costumes in all price ranges and tastes.

Have a little one in the house? Why not try the Baby Costumes section? Are you a history buff? Go check out the Historical Costumes! Of course, this post would not be complete without my mentioning the Star Wars Costumes or the Video Game / Toy Costumes sections. I am also loving the Wizard of Oz Costumes, and if my due date weren’t literally days away from Halloween you know I would be sporting something from the Maternity Costumes!

They even have a great selection of Couples, Groups, Plus Size, and even Pet costumes!

Here are a few of my personal favorites…

This costume can fit both kids and adults!
Mario Kart Costume, $19.99

I confess: I have always wanted to dress like the Princess of Power.
She-Ra Costume, $48.99

I have been telling J for ages that with our height difference,
we would make the perfect Spartan Cheerleaders couple.
Spartan Cheerleader Costumes, $27.99 each (female and male)

For more great costume ideas, be sure to check out the HalloweenCostumes.com Facebook Page! (You can also receive 10% off your next order by “Liking” the page!)

Now, on to the rules for this giveaway!

Each reader is eligible for up to three entries via the following methods (each method will grant a separate entry):

  1. Leave a comment to this post, telling me about your most memorable Halloween costume.
  2. If you haven’t done so already, go to the Geek in Heels Facebook Page and “Like” the page. Then click on the Halloween Costumes Giveaway link (located right under the profile picture, or just use this link) to enter the sweepstakes.

Please do not leave extra comments here if you enter via Facebook or Twitter.

You can increase your chances of winning by using all three methods of entry. There is only one entry allowed per person, per method  — for a total possible number of three entries — and any additional entries will be promptly deleted.

One year I was a die. It was nice to be in a big cardboard box because I could wear all my warm clothes underneath!

  • J.D. October 3, 2011 at 6:04 pm

Once I went as another resource-consuming kid in an overpopulated planet, raised to an alarming extent by Madison Avenue and Hollywood, posed with my cynical and alienated peers to take over the world when you’re old and weak

  • di October 3, 2011 at 6:14 pm

The last time i dressed up as a geisha with some friends. I hope i win a costume so i can get something fun for my baby!

  • Amanda October 3, 2011 at 6:41 pm

Aw, how fun! I haven’t dressed up for Halloween in a while – it would be fun to do it this year! :)

  • Susan L October 3, 2011 at 7:29 pm

When I was a kid I dressed up as a pumpkin for Halloween! :)

  • Erin October 3, 2011 at 7:32 pm

One of my favorite halloween costumes was in 6th grade, I dressed up as Mrs. Howell from Gilligan’s Island. I just took various items out of our dressup bin including a fur stole that was somehow in there. Also, once in college I was Bob from ‘What About Bob?’, costume complete with the goldfish in a glass jar around my neck.

  • Morgan October 3, 2011 at 7:45 pm

This is such a great giveaway!

My favorite costume as an adult has been my Captain Morgan costume that I spent way too long sewing. As a kid, I was for some reason obsessed with having a broken leg, and in 5th grade I went as a car crash victim, complete with a snow boot wrapped up to look like it was a cast.

My church tries to hold a Fall Festival celebration on Halloween every year to give the church kids an alternative to trick or treating. To avoid any scary costumes, they asked everyone to wear a Bible inspired costume. I didn’t want to be another Mary or Angel (of which there were PLENTY), so I bought a white sheet, cut it up and went as the Holy Ghost. :-D

Two Halloweens ago I was Brittany the Chipette. It was ADORABLE. Last Halloween was pretty awesome, too. I went as Guitar Hero. I looked like a badass. I bought these fake armsleeve tattoos and sooo many people who I’d know for years thought they were real. Plus I looked so awesome that I finally understood why people want to be rock stars all the time.

  • Veronica L October 3, 2011 at 9:30 pm

My most memorable Halloween costume to date would be when I was a little girl, all I wanted to be was a butterfly. So my mother and I helped design the wings and from there I glued feather down to cover the cardboard shape. Loved every minute of it :)

  • Veronica L October 3, 2011 at 9:33 pm

I Like Geek in Heels Facebook Page (Veronica L) and entered the sweepstakes, thanks

I totally need a costume for my son. He’s 15 months old and it will be his first celebrated Halloween.

  • Sarah October 3, 2011 at 10:11 pm

My favorite costume has been my “Deviled Egg” costume. I wore a knee-length white dress (my wedding going-away dress, actually) and white heels, after sewing a yellow circle of felt to the front and back of my dress. I carried a pitchfork and wore a set of devil horns in my hair. I love wordplay and so being punny was awesome for me.

I thought I was going to go as one-half of gin & tonic, but love the adult Dorothy costumes and the Greek Goddess costume at Halloween.com – so I may rethink this stuff!

  • Kiersley October 3, 2011 at 10:46 pm

Once when I was little I dressed up as a Teletubbie… I was recently a moose.

  • Paige October 3, 2011 at 11:35 pm

My most memorable Halloween costume was when my two other friends dressed up as a great trio:

    1. Harold
    2. Kumar
    3. White castle (me!)

The did the sequel the following year and soon…a 3rd Harold and Kumar movie is going to come out!

    So excited!

I haven’t done much on Halloween (hello premade costumes!) but I did recently go to a wedding in Steampunk under orders from the bride. Unfortunately I was the *only* person she’d mentioned it to… and she married a coworker of mine, so my bosses were there… Sigh.

  • Stephanie D October 4, 2011 at 2:12 am

I went as Edie Sedgwick — which wasn’t usually recognized, but I chopped my very long hair into a pixie cut for authenticity & it was awesome! :)

  • ABC October 4, 2011 at 9:07 am

My mom made me a costume when I was younger–a lightning bug! I wore black leggings and a black long-sleeved shirt, and she sewed giant wings out of glow-in-the-dark, and a little pouch for my “light”. The best part? The little pouch held a glow stick, so I was always lit up. It’s still my all-time favorite costume!

  • Jan October 4, 2011 at 10:39 am

My most memorable costume was last year, when husband and I dressed as ghostbusters

  • Ann October 4, 2011 at 11:18 am

My most memorable costume was rainbow brite. It was so much fun.

  • MelissaT October 4, 2011 at 11:31 am

I was, ahem, 16 and dressed like a cowgirl. The neighbors commented that I was too old to trick or treat. But, well, somebody had to walk my 3 younger siblings around the neighborhood at night. Just fill up the sack, ok?

  • Mika October 4, 2011 at 11:53 am

My most memorable costume was a sorcerer…basically a purple and gold witch. My parents made me wear that costume four years in a row. When I became an adult, I promised myself I would be something different every year.

  • Ashley H. October 4, 2011 at 12:07 pm

I loved when I got to dress like a princess.

  • Sarah October 4, 2011 at 12:40 pm

Oh, what a fun giveaway! My most memorable costume was being Jasmine (from Aladdin) when I was a little girl. My aunt made gorgeous blue outfit and headpiece.

  • Ali @ His Birdie's Nest October 4, 2011 at 12:48 pm

My most memorable Halloween costume would be the year I went as an Ancient Egyptian and my Mom thought it was a good idea to rubber cement sequins to my temples. Rubber cement burns like FIRE by the way and I had scars on my temples for months.

  • Jasmin October 4, 2011 at 4:05 pm

My most memorable costume was a witch when I was a child. I think its memorable because I used to use the costume all the time non halloween and scare my grandparents. Luckily nothing bad happened to them.

  • Rachael October 4, 2011 at 4:39 pm

My sister is the one in our family who had the best costumes. One year she dressed as a box of kleenex. She even had tissue paper that when you pulled out a sheet, another one popped out just like real boxes of tissues.

One year I dressed as a Sheikh and my husband dressed as George W. Bush. That was fun.

  • Rachel October 4, 2011 at 4:50 pm

My youngest brother was born two weeks before Halloween when I was 3. I got to be a super awesome princess with a giant paper hat with streamers. My mom dressed the baby all in green. We were the princess and the pea! It was awesome.

  • Colleen October 5, 2011 at 12:40 pm

I won the costume contest last year at a friend’s party with my Dolores Umbridge costume. I had the horrible pink shift dress with a terrible pink tweed blazer. I even made a replica of the Syltherin locket. For a girl who isn’t crazy about light pink I was swimming in it!

  • Emily L October 5, 2011 at 2:15 pm

My most memorable costume was when I made my own Candy Corn costume 5 years ago. I literally spent nights hand sewing each piece together. The crowd loved it and it was a hit at the party!

  • Lili October 5, 2011 at 2:33 pm

Last year, i bought some bat wings and ears and was a bat. People thought I was a flying cat. haha.

  • Judy October 5, 2011 at 6:02 pm

Most memorable costume has to be the time when I was a teen and decided trick or treat as “myself”. I couldn’t believe people gave me candy… Those were the days when my friends and I were “too cool” for costumes… Or so we thought. lol

  • Jen October 5, 2011 at 6:22 pm

My favorite frugal costume was being a penalty flag – a yellow poncho was all I needed! My boyfriend wore a ref shirt he already owned and kept me tucked under his arm all night. It was a blast!

  • Joyce October 5, 2011 at 7:39 pm

My favorite costume was Snow White…or maybe it was because I got the most candy that year?? =)

  • Haydia October 6, 2011 at 2:44 pm

My best costume was the year I went as Cleopatra. Not entirely original, but I made the entire costume by hand, beading and all. It took me 4 months and I was very proud of it.

  • taryn October 6, 2011 at 3:27 pm

i remember being tinkerbell when i was in 1st grade…i thought i had the prettiest costume out of everyone else!

  • Catherine October 6, 2011 at 8:58 pm

When I was in elementary school I went as Pippy Longstocking. I definitely outdid all the other girls in my class though… my mom braided my hair around a wire hanger so my pigtails actually did stick straight out!

  • Cecilia Andes October 7, 2011 at 3:07 am

My most memorable costume was when I wore a cat suit and went as cat woman. I was the bell of the ball (party). LOL…. And I loved all the cute comments.

  • Lauren October 7, 2011 at 7:20 am

I went as Hera one year in elementary school (since I was studying Greek mythology) and made the costume myself. It was basically a white dress with sheets that I wrapped around myself, and I painted my face white. I thought I looked so cool, but looking back it was pretty ridiculous!

  • Kelly Stadium October 7, 2011 at 10:45 am

Oh I would love to be She-Ra!

  • Michael October 7, 2011 at 3:49 pm

I wore a robe and had a pipe. I was Hugh Heffner.
