Continue readingI realized the other day that I had never posted Aerin's birth story. There is reasoning behind the madness: it just isn't that exciting. :-( And by this, I mean that while the birth of our second daughter was thrilling for us, it was short and easy and free of drama — not stuff that non-family members, let alone strangers on the web, would find very compelling. (For some serious birth story drama, check out the one of this lovely lady, whose second was born while she was changing into her hospital gown — the doctor literally had to catch the baby before she hit the floor!) Yesterday, I broke out of my month-long confinement in order to visit the optometrist. J still disapproved of my leaving the house, but I was running dangerously low on my contact lenses and I was not able to order them online since it had been more than a year since my last eye exam. (On the subject of contact lenses, I *heart* my current brand: Proclear 1 Day daily disposables. Not only are they so much more convenient than regular contacts and even regular 2-week disposables, they're sooo much more comfortable too. And no, neither Proclear nor Cooper Vision know that I exist.) Stare into a picture of a green pasture and a red barn as the machine whirls and estimates my vision. Check....

Aerin Isabel was born 11/1/11 at 9:20am, weighing 6 lbs 11 oz and measuring 19.5" long. Delivery was remarkably easy and complication-free (she was out in three pushes!); the baby very healthy and alert. I feel incredibly blessed that both Claire and Aerin made their entries into this world so smoothly. My first thought upon seeing Aerin for the first time was that she looked EXACTLY like Claire when she was born -- they even have the same dimple on the left corner of their mouths! But now, a few hours after delivery -- with her features becoming more defined and less flattened -- she is beginning to resemble her dad. The pictures above were taken just moments after birth. I...

I continued to have mild contractions for the rest of yesterday, and tried my best to go to sleep despite the discomfort. At around 3am, the contractions started to become quite painful and I began to time them using a contractions app I had downloaded for my phone. About 45 minutes later, I finally woke up J and we called his parents to come watch Claire so that we could head to the hospital. I was a bit scared that we would be sent back home, because that is what happened last year when I went into labor with Claire -- my contractions were not yet regular and I was not dilated enough to be admitted.
