Extra Fat Under Your Eyes May Make Them Look Larger

One thing I noticed lately is the prevalence of Korean celebrities who have large fat deposits under their eyes. This picture of the new girl group Rainbow was what prompted my new curiosity. Koreans (well, Asians in general) can have very warped views on attractiveness and appearances. I wondered if puffy under-eyes now counted as a desirable trait. Internet searches brought up nothing, so I decided to formulate my own theory. Asian blepharoplasty — otherwise known as Asian eyelid surgery — is performed in order to give the appearance of larger eyes. Asians even use glue or tape in order to create the crease that makes your eyes look bigger. As you can see, a crease can make your eyes look bigger without changing the...

The Return of the Cone Bra

I read on StyleList yesterday that the cone bra, or the "pointy bra," is making a comeback. I have always loved the fashion and trends of the 1950s and 1960s so I'm a bit intrigued. Of course, I would draw the line at something as extreme as this. But the photo of Marilyn Monroe above, and the impeccably dressed ladies of Mad Men, prove that the look can be quite classy. Say It Isn’t So, Prescriptives!

I just read on Blogdorf Goodman that Prescriptives will be closing its doors in 2010. While I don't use their makeup line much, I have been a hardcore fan of the Prescriptives All Clean Fresh Foaming Cleanser for years. In fact, it is the ONLY cleanser I have used in 2001! Does anyone know where I can stock up on this fabulous facial cleanser for cheap (aside from eBay)? Do you have any recommendations for a replacement cleanser? FYI, the reason I love All Clean is because it is unscented, gentle, and leaves my skin squeaky clean! ...

Koreans and the Small Face Phenomenon

Having grown up in the U.S., I have heard on more than one occasion that celebrities possess larger heads compared to those of the general population, the idea being that the larger head will have larger features, which will show better on screen. There is even an episode of Entourage where Turtle proclaims, "The bigger the head, the bigger the star." However, in Korea, the exact opposite is true. The smaller your head/face, the more attractive you are. A picture of Ivy, a Korean celebrity, posing between two fans. Notice how small her face is compared to that of "normal" people. (image source) It is not uncommon for foreigners to be utterly confounded when first met with this phenomenon. "Gosh, your face is so small!"...

My Vixen Nails

Last night's girls night out was one of the craziest in recent memory. I won't go into too much details, but suffice it to say that I stumbled home at an unreasonable hour and spent a good portion of the morning hugging the toilet. Although we had made dinner plans, my friend E told me to meet her for $10 manis & martinis at Beauty Bar. I had read about this establishment before but it had seemed a bit too "girly" for my tastes. In addition, I hadn't had a manicure in about a decade - I have an issue with strangers touching me (I even refuse to get facials or massages) and I was a bit nervous. However, I was in dire need...
