“Darth Vader and Son”

What if Darth Vader were around to see Luke grow up? What if he took an active role in his childhood and did all the things that ordinary dads do with their sons?

Author and illustrator Jeffrey Brown has taken up this challenge in Darth Vader and Son, which paints a lovely and hilarious alternate reality of Darth Vader as an everyday father. Among the many scenarios depicted in the book, Vader teaches Luke how to use a lightsaber, takes him toy-shopping, and even goes trick-or-treating with him!

I hardly have time to check my Google Reader anymore, so I was absolutely delighted when J told me about this book. The only problem I can see with it is that Leia is nowhere in sight — perhaps the author will write a sequel featuring her?

This 64-page hardcover book will not be released until May 4, but you can be sure that we will be pre-ordering a copy for ourselves and our girls! In the meantime, be sure to check out the below book trailer:

I saw this article and it reminded me of your post on this book. In the interview, the author mentions that he is going to do a follow up with Princess Leia. I hope that you’re feeling better.

This is totally great! I can’t make up my mind as to my favorite. It’s between DV and Luke in the cantina, and the backseat “are we there yet?” Inspired stuff. I’ll have to get a copy.

    Yobo seh yo,

I found your blog (geek in heels) today on squarespace, but I was looking for how to draw korean anime. The man who taught my husband to be a mechanic is originally from seoul, s.k., and we were fortunate enough that he truly shared his culture with us for the two 1/2 years we worked for him.

I was reading about you, and it seems that we have a great deal in common. I am a cellular & molecular bio major at College of Charleston, but I’m from NYC, “the best city in the world”. I love Science & Math, but I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the whole web engineering thing…I’m far from being a novice…I’m like pre-novice. I also love heels, and I feel I’m a geek (I work as a lab aide currently in a microbiology lab…totally my choice undergrad gig).

I just wanted to encourage you to feel better. I saw your latest blog post about depression, and I think you’d have to be abnormal not to get depressed every now and again these days (the world’s a crazy place, right?)

I hope you feel better, and happy mother’s day!

    Sincerely,

    Ife (efeh)
