Map of Sin: How Does Your Country Compare?

BBC Focus magazine recently ran a featured article behind the science of sin: its definition; the biological triggers that cause us to sin; and how modern technology may be making us more sinful than ever before.

The article also included a colorful chart titled “The Most Sinful Nation on Earth.” Taking into account the Seven Deadly Sins in terms of their modern equivalents, it compiled statistical databases to find the most sinful countries:

According to this chart, Australia is overall the most sinful nation on earth, followed by the United States. This was pretty surprising to me — I would think the U.S. would take the top spot without a fight!

The #1 countries for each category are:

  • Lust: South Korea
  • Gluttony: USA
  • Greed: Mexico
  • Sloth: South Africa
  • Envy: Australia
  • Pride: Iceland

Are you surprised by the results?

  1. I love this! haha.. just tweeted about it.

Can’t say I was surprised that the States, Australia and Canada were in the top 3 though…

And yet we’re not ranked in Pride… We should be #1 dammit!

I’m really surprised the US didn’t "win." I am sure if they turn sinning into an Olympic sport, we would whip our country into shape and take the gold away from Australia!

  4. I thought the US would be the #1 country as well. Sort of makes you think Sweden or the Czech Republic looks pretty good eh?

As an Australian, I would be proud that we’re the most sinful nation…..but that would just increase our sinfulness even more, so I won’t.

Really? We’re the 3rd most lusftul and the most envious country? Really? WTF?
