An Awesome Book

When I first found out I was pregnant, the baby-preparation experience I looked forward to the most was not decorating the nursery or picking out the baby clothes. It was building the baby's first library. As a avid lover of books, I absolutely cannot wait to introduce my child to all the books I loved as a child. Where the Wild Things Are. The Giving Tree. The Velveteen Rabbit. The list goes on and on. (And if my child takes after J and does not like reading much, I'll just DIE. DIIIEEEEE, I tell you!) Yesterday, Wired's GeekDad introduced me to another book I must add to the list: An Awesome Book by Dallas Clayton. I immediately clicked on over to read the book...

Glee!

I have a new obsession, and that show is Glee. After downloading all 5 episodes in the season so far, including the director's cut of the pilot, I pressed "play" on my computer expecting not much more than another over-hyped sitcom. Not so, my friends. I proceeded to watch all 5, right after the other, in one sitting. It was that good. And I'm itching for more. THE best new show of the year. Wednesday nights have never looked better! ...

Finally, MTV!

I have been looking forward to this coming Tuesday (July 14) since the beginning of the year. What is so special about the 14th, you ask? One of my all-time favorite TV shows, MTV's The State, will finally be released on DVD! For those who are not familiar with the show, The State was an hour-long comedy sketch show that aired on MTV from 1993-1995. The cast consisted of 11 comedians who wrote, acted, directed, and edited the show. During a time when life consisted of pimples, oily bangs, and braces, The State was one of my favorite escapes - an hour where a shy, nerdy girl could seek solace from the harsh reality of teenage angst and partake in a culture that...

A Digital Piano to Call My Own

Having played the piano since the age of 5, I always pictured my "grown-up" home featuring a baby grand nearside an oversized window. What I didn't realize is that city living on a limited budget does not allow for such luxuries. Sometime last year I decided that a digital/electric piano would fit the bill. It would allow me to practice in private and would definitely take up less space than an acoustic instrument. I immediately began saving, and per my usual self, began to do crazy research for the perfect digital piano under $2,000 (thank you, Piano World Forums!). Unfortunately, my job situation (or lack thereof) put a halt to my savings plan. Until I received my tax refund, that is. Having a husband who works...

Bring on the Pain!

Back in the days when I had a lot more free time and the luxury of The Bank of Mom & Dad supporting me, I was a regular feature at my local gym. Fifteen minutes on the elliptical, thirty minutes of strength training, and another fifteen on the elliptical (or a few laps in the pool) to cool down. I have never been skinny. In fact, I've always struggled a bit with my weight, because unlike most Asians I was cursed with a curvy body. However, during this year of religious workouts, I was at my most fit with tight limbs and a 25" waist. I didn't have a six-pack, but I had a well-defined line extending down my tummy. I...
