Why Toilet Paper Should Hang OVER the Roll [A Compelling Argument]

I have discussed my stance on this issue before, and even shared with you an infographic on the Science of Toilet Paper Orientation.

Today, I bring you the most persuasive argument I have seen so far on why “Over is Right, Under is Wrong.”

Does anyone still maintain that toilet paper should hang under the roll? (And don’t tell me it’s to deter your baby or pet from unrolling the entire spool, because if your baby or pet is smart enough, they will get to it, no matter what.  😛 )

Over… when it’s under it feels like it’s prone to touch the wall or other things which renders it less sanitary. Hubster and I had a long discussion and argument over it. Now our tp always hangs over. 😀

Oh my goodness. This so nicely compiles the vehement argument I’ve been making for hanging the TP over. I’ve always felt like a dorkess for (1) having a firm preference and (2) having reasons behind the preference. Reading this comforted me in knowing I’m clearly not the only one!! 🙂

Yay!!! Now I don’t feel quite so bad for being ‘that person’ who will flip the roll over when I’m at someone else’s house! *blush*

Oh, this is great! I need to show my husband. We had a long debate about this when we first got married and this totally reinforces my point. We’re a TP-Over household right now because rolled under bothered me way more than rolled over bothers him. 😛

My mother ALWAYS puts it on the “wrong” way, under. If I put a new roll on at her house the “right” way, she’ll switch it. I don’t know what that is about.

Although I do know that in grad school I used to put it under just to piss off my roommate who was anal and would switch it back.

I cannot even tell you how much I love this post!! I agree completely. Toilet paper rolling the correct direction is very important! 🙂

Haha I love this! though the hubs always takes OFF the roll and never puts it back on… so I don’t know what category that lies in.

I don’t like seeing the end, so always always under for me. I know it’s not a good reason, but it makes sense in my head. 🙂

I agree with the “over” rule completely and for all of the same reasons, including Vicki’s sanitary concerns.

My mother always had it under until I began working in a restaurant and they insisted the roll always be over. Their reasoning; the weight of the roll and the direction of the paper causes a resistance that forces most people, (out of weakness or laziness they never explained), to settle for less bathroom tissue, thereby saving the company money. lol.

Add the other points above and it makes for a compelling argument. Now my parents have it the right way all the time. Oh, and Jennifer, I always flip the roll at other people’s houses too. lol

Over is the best way for sanitary reasons
When you use a roll that is under you are using paper that the person before you has touched while they were trying to find the end while sitting on the toilet think about it, so the only clean way is over, go home & try it you will see what i’m talking about
