Guest Post: Family Pets

I know that introducing Claire to Comang and his adjustment to no longer being the "baby" of the house will be difficult, but I am determined to make it work. So when Heather first contacted me about possibly writing a guest post on the addition of babies to households with pets, I jumped at the chance. Missing My First Baby

Despite my protests, I became outnumbered by J and my parents. According to J, he does not have the energy to take care of me, the baby, and a dog. According to my parents, a dog will only bring added stress to our new life as parents. As a result, Comang has been staying at my parents' since Claire's birth and will stay there for at least another few weeks. My sister is back in NY for the year, so Comang has a friend — my sister's dog Dante — to keep him company. I know that he is probably happier there than in our cramped apartment with a new baby and J's parents visiting daily (they do not like dogs much)....

Our Fixed Dog, A Horrible Night, and Small Miracles

I only got 2½ hours of sleep the night before the procedure. I have always been a sensitive sleeper (ie, not being able to sleep well the night before trips) and with growing concern for my little guy, coupled with a bad case of pregnancy-related indigestion, I simply could not rest easy. We dropped Comang off at the animal hospital at 8:30am and were instructed to call back after 3:30pm, when he would be coming out of anesthesia. I called exactly at 3:31 and was relieved beyond a doubt to hear that the surgery had gone well. The vet wanted to keep an eye on him for another couple of hours to make sure there were no complications, and so directed...
