Third Trimester

I am 28 weeks pregnant with BebeDeux today, which means that I am officially in my third trimester. I wish I had a belly shot to share with you, but I still don't have a functioning laptop with which to transfer photos from my camera and my cell phone camera isn't working. So here's what I looked like last year when I was 28 weeks pregnant with Claire, since everyone's been telling me that my tummy growth and weight gain look relatively the same.  My mother theorized that I must be having such difficult pregnancies because the babies are "absorbing" all my health...

Wishing for Boredom

Thank you all very much for your kind comments regarding my father. I received word that he was discharged from the hospital about an hour ago, and is well on his way to recovery. I wanted so badly to be see him again today, but I could not as I had Claire to take care of and the hospital, like most, does not allow babies to visit. But I'm sure that my own anguish was nothing compared to my mother's, who had her own store to watch and could not be by his side even when she first received word of the incident yesterday. Luckily, my sister was able to cancel her plans to stay with my father yesterday and today. I think...

Healing, and Thank Yous

This week has been one of the longest of my life. I know that an appendectomy — a laparoscopic appendectomy, no less — is considered a fairly common and simple procedure in modern medicine. But with the pregnancy having slowed my healing time in addition to lowering my threshold for pain (both very common pregnancy symptoms), I am still in quite a bit of discomfort. Perhaps the biggest complication that the pregnancy brought to the procedure was that due to my enlarged uterus, the incisions had to be made a lot further away from each other. So for the first few days after surgery, I could feel — by way of pain — the path where the laparoscope (the camera) had made its...

Surgery

I am currently writing this on my phone while lying in bed at the hospital. Early yesterday morning I woke up to excruciating abdominal pain, similar to the severe round ligament pain I had experienced during my pregnancy with Claire. With this pregnancy being so similar to the last, I had believed myself to have been lucky to have been spared such dramatic afflictions, but I was wrong. When the pain level reached that of labor pains, J called his brother to come watch Claire so that we could head to the hospital. Being 25 weeks pregnant, I was admitted to Labor & Delivery right away. The pain continued to grow worse, but BebeDeux seemed to be in good condition. Soon, the pain...

Approaching Toddlerhood, and 24 Weeks

Remember how I said that we were working on transitioning Claire from 3 naps down to 2? She continued to hover back and forth between 2 and 3 naps for over a month. But in the end, it took a traumatic visit to the pediatrician's office to officially push her over to the 2 nap schedule. The lengths of her naps are still inconsistent, lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes. Her nighttime sleep has still yet to return to her pre-teething days and so she will wake up at least once per night more often than sleep all the way through. But now that she is able to stay awake for up to 3 and a half hours...
