The COD Bug

Yesterday, J and our sister-in-law Annie were in panic because one of the most-anticipated games of the year was being released the next day (today) and neither of them had pre-ordered the game.

“How could YOU TWO of all people not have pre-ordered it?” I asked.

Neither of them had a good excuse.

(And Annie, I know you gave me a lengthy excuse but let’s face it: you can’t call yourself a true COD fan unless you place a pre-order on the first day that pre-orders are available! )

They called a bazillion GameStops in the area. They even had an innocent victim — J’s brother / Annie’s husband — run down to Chinatown to see if a copy was available.

According to J, this is what all the GameStops in the area looked like (image source).

Annie says that she was practically in tears at this point.

She then got in touch with a GameStop a bit up north who said they had some pre-orders left, but they would need to get there in 10 minutes to get it.

Unfortunately, they didn’t get there in time.

They then decided to swing by Best Buy, and as luck would have it, this particular branch was having a midnight launch party!

This is not J or Annie, nor is it a picture taken by them. It is a random image that popped up when I image-searched “GameStop” and thought it too funny not to share (image source).

I don’t know about Annie, but J played until 3am (“I’ll still get 5 solid hours of sleep for work!”) and will be high tailing it home tonight so he could get in a solid 6 hours of gameplay.

I am tempted to make fun of them even more, but came to the realization that I would probably do the same for a game I am passionate about.

What about you? Have YOU or anyone you know caught the COD bug?

At least I’m not the only one who finds humor with the world of COD:

  4. Geek in Heels says:

Oh, I knew I wasn’t getting any tonight since you’d be playing all night long.

  5. Hubby says:

    That’s just messed up…

  7. So… um… my husband pre-ordered it… AND STILL STAYED UP to get it right at midnight. He then stayed up until 2am playing it. And then, on top of that HE TOOK THE DAY OFF just to play the game.

I’m just glad he’s been playing for hours now, and maybe I’ll be less of a video game widow…

Bryan preordered it on Steam. But he preorders pretty much any big release game… I think he’s more excited for Left for Dead 2.

Luckily he gets all his playing in while I’m at work!

I’m too much of a spaz for shooters… I always freak out and waste all my ammo. It annoys Bryan. A lot. But, I did stand outside for hours for the midnight release of World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade! That was exciting.

@Tiffany — LOL! I showed this to J and he said, "See? At least I didn’t take off from work!" (But I’m certain that he probably would have if he hadn’t just started this new job.)

@Jenna — I’m a video game geek but I’m not too into shooters either, especially first-person shooters…they make me dizzy! J says that he has to finish COD in a week since Left for Dead 2 is coming out next week. And yes, I’m making sure that he pre-orders it this time!

  10. OMG. This cracks me up. I’m glad I’m not the only one who as lost a husband to "COD!" He has been waiting forever and as we speak he is sitting in the other room playing away while I’m in our bedroom watching SYTYCD. We should all put them in the same game together. haha

  11. Geek in Heels says:

@Michelle — We should SO make them all play together!

I’m in the Air Force and I can say from the Onion News video.. that is the most realistic military experience.

I’m stationed at Ramstein AFB in Germany and I spend 10-12 hours fixing airplanes, complaining about phone service and hearing my coworkers fight over which actress is hotter.

When I go home on leave, people ask me if I fly airplanes and if I ever saw someone get shot.

    True to Life.

I’m leaving for a trip at the end of the week for a couple of days and my husband still insists on playing COD every night/waking minute he’s not at work, knowing full and well he’ll have 4 full days to play while I’m gone.

    Doesn’t matter.

He goes into the basement for hours at a time and doesn’t come out. Apparently, he was able to pick it up even earlier than expected? Monday morning, I think. Anyway, he plays so loud it makes the house shake when he "makes a kill," or whatever. 🙂
