You’ve Come a Long Way, Twitter

Twitter debuted its new homepage today and I'm digging it! > Compared to the old design, it is a lot more modern, interactive, and easier on the eyes. How do you like the new design? J has been tracking startups since the dawn of the internet, so he joined Twitter shortly after it launched in 2006 - years before it became a household name. (He also joined Yelp when it first launched, way before most people even heard of it. What can I say? He has a knack for picking good startups. ) He bugged me relentlessly about creating my own Twitter account, promising that it will be the "next big thing." However, I resisted - I only knew two people who were tweeting! Besides, I...

The Importance of a Persistent Brand

You gotta feel bad for Pepsi. Their re-branding campaign, which - at $1.2 billion - is probably one of the most expensive in American history, has been met with unenthusiastic reviews and perplexed consumers. If you remember, this blogger has disapproved of it as well. I was forced to revisit my thoughts on the Pepsi vs Coke debate - at least from a branding perspective - when Designer Daily posted this handy, says-it-all chart: Is it not surprising that Coca-Cola holds a more persistent and stable image in Americans' minds? There are the numerous Photoshop actions/filters available out there on the web (here is one), and now, there are photo frames to emulate Polaroids as well! Snap Frames, constructed of molded white plastic with a dry erase surface, can hold any photo or image for your viewing pleasure. And at $22.50 for a pack of 9, they won't break the bank either! Thus...

30 Best Google Logos

Re-reading my post about SDCC '09, I couldn't help but marvel at the Google logo celebrating the famed event. I have always had a fascination with Google specialty logos - you can't help but admit that some of them are outright clever. From a designer's perspective, Dennis Hwang has to have one of the most coveted jobs in the world. With over a hundred million visitors a day, the lone image on Google.com is one of the most-viewed on the planet - what type of graphic artist wouldn't want that kind of exposure? (Random tangent: there is a one-third chance that I am related to Mr. Hwang, as the Korean surname Hwang, which makes up roughly 1.5% of the South Korean population,...
