Please Don’t Stone Me

A neutron walks into a bar and asks the bartender, "How much for a beer?" The bartender replies, "For you, no charge."   I thought I would start with a joke so you'll forgive me for backing out of another promise. The fact of the matter is, I've had a pretty crazy couple of weeks. Quit a job (and get handed a slew of last-minute projects during my last two weeks there). Help a friend with a web project. Host a crazy, "legendary" potluck. Be more involved in church. Start a new job. I had a good first day at work today, but I am saddened to say that I will have a lot less time for blogging. Either that, or I will have to sacrifice a lot of...

The End of the Blog, Or Why Do You Blog?

While pouring over the latest issue of my favorite magazine over the weekend, I was shocked to read this obituary to blogging. The first four paragraphs really stung me: Thinking about launching your own blog? Here's some friendly advice: Don't. And if you've already got one, pull the plug. Writing a weblog today isn't the bright idea it was four years ago. The blogosphere, once a freshwater oasis of folksy self-expression and clever thought, has been flooded by a tsunami of paid bilge. Cut-rate journalists and underground marketing campaigns now drown out the authentic voices of amateur wordsmiths. It's almost impossible to get noticed, except by hecklers. And why bother? The time it takes to craft sharp, witty blog prose is better spent...

FAQ Page

However small, whenever I make an improvement to this site I want to dance! The newest addition to this blog is an FAQ page. It is located under the "Navigation" section of my sidebar. In it, I explain the difference between registering and requesting private access. I also explain how you can sign up for updates via email. This feature is useful for those who would like to keep updated on my private posts, as they do not publish an RSS feed. Thanks and please let me know if you have any questions or comments! ...

Changes

You're probably expecting an election post based on the title of this post. I'm sorry to say this isn't. The Presidential Election Day is obviously a very important one but I do not like writing about politics or government (I tend to get unpleasant flashbacks of my college days where I was an International Studies major). All I will say is: I have faith that whatever the outcome, it is part of God's plan and design. However, I do have some important announcement to make regarding my life and this blog...

Transport to Squarespace…Complete!

I know I had been talking about making the transition to Squarespace, but have been putting it off until inspiration hit - I get bored too easily and want a site redesign! I had figured that I would hit two birds with one stone by redesigning the site and making the switch at the same time. However, while high on Midol last Friday, I asked myself why I couldn't make the switch and worry about the redesign later. So I did it. I moved all my old posts to Squarespace this past weekend. You're now looking at Geek in Heels, powered by Squarespace. A few things I noticed in the transition: It took a bit getting used to, but WOW! Squarespace is so much more...
