Knicks Opening Game at MSG

Last night, I ran home after work to change into my Knicks jersey - we were going to the Knicks opening game against Miami! Basketball is my favorite sport, and I've been a die-hard Knicks fan ever since high school. It was hard not to be, as the 90s were the glory days of the Knicks (at least in my lifetime) and all of New York was crazy for its boys in blue and orange. Ewing. Starks. Johnson. Sprewell. Houston. I cried when the Knicks lost the 1999 NBA Championships to the Spurs (and I still have a grudge against the entire city of San Antonio, almost a full decade after the event). I declared that I can now die happy when...

Would You Sacrifice Space for Location?

Yesterday, the NYTimes had an interesting article about families to opt to stay in cramped quarters in Manhattan, rather than move to the suburbs (or even just outside the island) where they can afford bigger homes. There's the family of four who squeeze a queen sized bed, a crib, and a toddler bed into one bedroom.Or the couple who gave up the only bedroom to their two kids, taking the walk-in closet for themselves.I couldn't help but cringe as I read the stories of these families. (image via the New York Post) Apparently, Pfizer sued Jet Angel for the stunt and courts today ruled in favor of Pfizer. Wait for the bad news. Wait...

The Perils of NYC

There are two fears that haunt me every day as I move in, out, and about NYC. The first are subway and sidewalk grates. I hate walking over grates. There are the obvious reasons, such as my heels getting stuck in them or the fear of treating passerbys to a Marilyn Monroe moment whenever I don a skirt or a dress. However, the main reason I fear grates is because I'm scared that one will fall out from under me. Unfortunately, I possess neither the grace nor coordination to position my heelslike Ms. Monroe in this famous movie scene. And when my skirt blows up,I tend to resemble a panicked duck. (image via StrangeCelebrities) Friends would always scoff at this phobia, pointing to the...
