50 Movies for 50 States

Redditor subtonix made a map of what movies best represent each of the 50 states. Personally, I would have gone with Sleepless in Seattle for Washington, and Grumpy Old Men for Minnesota, but I agree with most of the choices. I especially love Clerks for New Jersey, and Red Dawn for Colorado (Wolverines!).

Do you think your state was accurately represented?

  1. In a word: YES. California was PERFECTLY represented.

Um… never even heard of first blood. I'd vote Twilight or Sleepless in Seattle for washington! 😉

edit. okay, I guess First Blood is the first Rambo film.. but I was too young to enjoy that when it came out (more like not even born). Twilight is more relevant 🙂

Yeah, I'm bummed about the choice for Washington. But not as bummed as I would be if I lived in Georgia. Yikes, what a representation! I love Maine, though.

The person who created this must not realize that Fargo is in North Dakota, not Minnesota! And I definitely would have chosen Sleepless in Seattle for my home state!

Is it weird that I haven't seen most of these movies? I would have also suggested 10 things I hate about you for Washington

  6. This is great! Although as a native New Jerseyan, I would prefer Garden State to Clerks 🙂

I knew, before I even looked, that Napoleon Dynamite would be listed for my home state of Idaho. 🙂 I used to hate it but now I embrace the love

I'm originally from NH and I would've chosen The Hotel New Hampshire…great flick!!!! Weird, smart, and sexy young Rob Lowe!!!!

Napolean Dynamite is PERFECT for idea. People either love it or hate it, but if you're from around that area it makes waaaay too much sense.

Hmm, I'd either take Grumpy Old Men or New In Town for Minnesota… Fargo is in ND, kthx.
O Brother Where Art Thou is GREAT for MS.
I haven't lived in Florida long enough, and not familiar with Scarface.

Being from Hawaii, I wouldn't have picked "Tora, Tora, Tora" for Hawaii. I think it's a little racist to pick that movie, it's like saying Hawaii is all gung-ho Japanese people, and well it's not. Yes there's a WHOLE lot of Asians, but trust me they're not all Japanese, there's a ton of Korean, Chinese, and Filipino too. I personally would have picked "Blue Crush" although not everyone is a die hard surfer in Hawaii, the mean waves of Hawaii is well represented, and trust me, those waves are MEAN!

Total cop-out using HOOSIERS for Indiana. Seriously. Creativity was not at the forefront for that choice.

Jesus Camp? Really? That's lame. What about Meet Me in St. Louis? Or White Palace? Or Up in the Air?

Being from Wyoming I don't feel Brokeback Mountain represents it well, especially considering it's not a real place. I have lived here all my life and rode a horse once, contrary to popular belief the majority of people here are not cowboys and do not live on ranches/farms. Sure some people do but I think it is considerably less than many people would think. The only other recent movie I think of that was set in Wyoming is, Did You Hear About the Morgans? which I didn't see but is also set in a fake town, so I doubt it's any better. I can't think of a recent movie that depicts it well the way it is now, probably because it's too dry and boring to make a real movie about really. I think some westerns probably depict it accurately the way it was back then.
