Dorm in a Box

I probably spent thousands of dollars in dorm/apt essentials and deco over my college career. And all for what? Stuff I threw away, donated, or sold for less than 30% of their market value. I mean, who the heck buys twin extra long beds for their own house? Looking back, I regret the ridiculous amount of money I spent on the material objects which supplemented my college life. Because the things you buy for college are meant to be disposable, like newly developed skills (perfecting the trajectory required to dunk that ping pong ball into a plastic cup of beer), certain types of relationships (the "frenemy"), and $100,000 worth of knowledge (I honestly can't for the life of me name even...

Comfortable Heels

Although I rarely venture out without heels, I'm ironically not that into shoes. I am much more of a bag hag than a shoe whore, and until recently never spent more than $100 on a pair of shoes. My mother stepped in to set me straight. "Shoes are so important to your health! If your feet are not comfortable, your entire body suffers." She advised me to invest in a few high-quality shoes. As they say, mother knows best. In 2006 Cole Haan collaborated with its parent company, Nike, to bring the Nike Air Technology to a special lines of its shoes. There’s No Place Like 127.0.0.1

Many years back I discovered a wonderful online store called ThinkGeek.com. I have ordered many items since then but my mind always lingered on the very first item that caught my attention: the There's No Place Like 127.0.0.1 Doormat. (If you're not a geek like me and don't understand what the mat says, go read http://www.tech-faq.com/127.0.0.1.shtml). I always vowed that when I get my own place I would prominently display this mat at my front door. (And is it just a coincidence that my birthday numbers are 127? I think not.) Now, after having closed the condo and all the repairs done, I've slowly started to move in. I'm not quite living there yet, but my mind immediately thought back to this doormat. I ordered it a few...

Baby Geek

I'm at that age where a lot of people in my social circle are getting knocked up or trying to get preggers. Naturally this freaks me out because I still consider myself a kid. I may have a job and a mortgage to pay but I still have the tendency to regress back to my five-year-old self much more than necessary. Although I hate to admit it, I'm secretly terrified that I would make a horrible mother. Many people have told me that I would be a great mother because of my innate desire to always be taking care of others. However, this is  human life we're talking about here. A mother has the potential to seriously f*ck up a child's well-being. While I may not turn...

Minding My Girls

At a recent girls night out, a few of my friends started gabbing about bras and how we all must get fitted for one. Eh? Didn't we all go through this during puberty? My friends then went on to explain that most women are wearing the wrong bra size and only a fitting by a professional can provide the, ahem, full support that you need. "Listen to Oprah!" they preached. (Sadly, I don't watch Oprah...
