Claire Meets Aerin

She was not very amused. If anything, she seemed a bit scared and intimidated.

And when she saw me holding her little sister for the first time, she started to cry. 🙁 Her grandfather had to take her away and distract her with some ballons so that she wouldn’t throw a fit right there in the hospital room.

Ever since I got pregnant with Aerin, people have been telling me that our two girls will grow up to be the best of friends. I can only hope and pray that they are right.

Oh bless her heart… she does look so skeptical! : )

I agree, they will be best of friends, don’t let Day 1 get you down : )

I have a little sister and we adore each other. When we’re not squabbling like 4 year olds, that is. I can’t promise you that will go away… my Mom is still patiently waiting! : )

Little G had to be taken out of the hospital as well when he met his sister the other day. It’s a lot to take in, but they’ll both survive. I promise.

She looks so serious in that first picture! She’ll get used to her little sister soon enough – and even if they aren’t best friends from the beginning, I’m betting they’ll get there.

Somebody described it like this: imagine that your husband came home with a younger, cuter wife and said, “I love you both and equally so we’re all going to live together and you have to share me from now on.”

At some point Claire is going to love her sister. She does not look pleased. However, remember Claire is still a baby too! So to an extent you are going to have to treat them the same. It’s going to work out.

aww, bless her! She’ll get used to her quickly I’m sure – it’s supposed to be easier with a small age gap.

i wonder how maya’s going to react to her new brother. so far she’s been equally unimpressed with small babies and prefers the company of much older children. If I could give birth to a 5 year old she could play with, I think she’d be very happy!

Have I told you how much I adore that name? One of my favorite books is The Hero’s Crown by Robin McKinley, and the main character is named Aerin. I can’t wait to see how those two grow up together!

I won’t lie – it’s going to be hard for a while. But they WILL be best friends and you will have such a full heart from the love they give each other.

Claire has the best “skeptical face” of any kid I’ve ever seen, anywhere. Claire is the greatest. (And I’m sure Aerin will be too — congrats!!)

    Congratulations!

    If I may make a suggestion;

The second picture is absolutely precious – maybe it would be cool to have a “what is Claire thinking” blog post or something.

It looks like she is wondering what all the fuss is about!

Apologies if it is a presumptious and out of place comment.

Aww poor kid! She’ll get used to the idea of having a sister. 🙂 And they WILL grow up close to one another, don’t be disheartened! 🙂 Claire might just be slow to warm up.

my mom would have to lock the door when she was nursing me because otherwise my sister would shove herself in between us. with the door locked, she just hammered her fist on the door and wailed. another time she suggested to my mom that she throw me off an airplane.

that being said, we are the best of friends and couldn’t be closer. my mom mentions from time to time how much she is comforted by the fact that we are so close. i hope the same for claire and aerin–claire’s expression is pretty funny.

I love these pictures! My friends two kids are 13 months apart and it was rough at first but now that the smaller one is mobile the kids play with eachother all of the time and she can just sit and watch them!

Claire’s expression is priceless! Though I suppose if someone handed me a crying bundle, I would be unnerved as well.

I know Claire looks miserable in those pictures but she is so adorable at the same time. I’m sure she’ll come around in time and hope its not too difficult of an adjustment. Hope you are feeling well!

Lol I love it! You’re daughter is obviously too intelligent for her own good. Unlike most young children who don’t seem to have any idea what the baby is or what it means, it’s almost as if Claire recognizes what this means immediately. I think you should take this a few of ways. First, you were worried about how much Claire was detaching herself from you… Obviously this isn’t something to be too concerned about. 😉 Two, that you have an uber intelligent daughter. And three, you are in for a rocky next few months, but I also believe that when Aerin gets older and Claire discovers a playmate and friend in her, it truly will be the most amazing bond. Congratulations on your family Jenny!

They will get along. They might be best friends, they might not, like with anybody you meet in life, but they’ll be sisters 🙂 Right now, though, Claire needs to get over the shock, and yes, it is a big shock. Just explain things to her, she’ll be fine 🙂

My sister and I are just under 3 years apart. They will fight like dogs at times, and you’ll wonder if they will ever get along, but it happens. My sister is my best friend.

I have to tell you those are some of the absolutely *sweetest* photos I’ve ever seen. You’ll have to save them for their wedding slideshows. 😉

My two younger sisters are 16 months apart. When the older one met the younger one, she looked at her and ran away. Today they’re so close I’m jealous!
