Eye Boogers on Our Walls!

Meet Comang.

An old picture of our shih-tzu, before (like my husband likes to say)
his “manhood was taken away”

He may never pee or poop in the house. But he likes to leave his mark in other ways.

How? By smearing his eye boogers all over our walls and moldings.

I present to you exhibits A and B for your consideration:

We first discovered these markings a few months after we adopted him two years ago. It’s a pretty smart move if you think about it — why use his clumsy and sharp-nail-filled paws to remove his eye boogers, when it’s easier to drag the side of your face against the wall and the molding around each door?

But it’s kinda gross too.

I cleaned our walls and moldings the best I could, and in order to discourage him from continuing this nasty habit I started to diligently clean his eyes every day.

But he continues to do this. I don’t know if it’s become a habit or what, but he refuses to stop (and many times, he’ll do it while we are not looking).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can get him to stop?

And  if anyone can chime in with the best way to clean this solidified gunk from our walls and moldings, I’d really appreciate it too.  🙂

Not a recommendation for cleaning the gunk off the walls, but I know a lot of people that use Angel Eyes with really great results, including my family’s maltipoo.

  2. Ok, I admit that’s pretty hilarious – Comang’s such a character! Our cat has some ear problem (not her fault, I’m a bad owner for not taking care of it I guess) and when she shakes her head the discharge goes on our wall sometimes – gross. Not sure how to change Comang’s behavior though! Good luck!

What about spraying some of that stuff that’s supposed to keep dogs from chewing things onto the wall/molding?

As for cleaning it, maybe with it with some water, give it time to soften up and then suing a Mr.Clean Magic Eraser?

i have this same issue–i don’t see them purposefully rubbing against it, but it’s in the area where we un/leash them so i think there’s a lot of opportunity for grazing against the wall. i used mr. clean’s magic eraser, although unfortunately in some spots i rubbed a little too hard. don’t be like me!

    • I’m so glad Comang’s not the only weirdo who does this! (Seriously, when I asked other dog owners if their dogs do this they laughed and said no.) I’ve tried Mr Clean Eraser too, but when I tried a test spot on our wall it stripped our paint. 🙁

I second Courtney. They make sprays to keep dogs and cats from chewing on wires, and that are supposed to make them avoid certain areas. It’s non-toxic so would probably be find for Claire to be near, and you being pregnant also. I have one at home that I use on our christmas presents and it works alright…smells kind of citrusy. I’d try spraying something like that on your corners at Comang’s height. We love our pets but they sure can be gross can’t they!!

That first photo is hilarious. Comang and Jellyby would totally get along. Jelly likes to wipe her mouth on the walls and doors.
