Late last year, the web was abuzz with the introduction of a laptop + DSLR bag that was not only functional and well-made, but beautiful as well: the ONA Union Street Bag.
I knew it would be perfect for my fashion-conscious husband, who commutes to work with a laptop and likes to bring along his DSLR wherever he can.
I immediately placed myself on the waiting list — the bag had became sold out as soon as the blogosphere began to buzz about it — and gifted it to J as his birthday present earlier this year.
We both love the Union Street bag. J gets compliments on it all the time, and I could definitely distinguish ONA’s high craftsmanship and quality of materials compared to other camera bags.
So when ONA recently contacted me to see if I would be interested in reviewing their new Roma Camera Insert and Bag Organizer, I couldn’t be more ecstatic!
As with most amateur photographers with a DSLR on their hands, I tend to stick with one or two lenses and do not carry around much accessories. And because I prefer my DSLR to my phone camera or my 4-year-old point-and-shoot (which now only gets used once every few months), I like to bring it out when I go out…
…the problem being, of course, that I don’t like to carry around a separate camera bag.
In order to get around this problem I usually wrap my camera in a scarf and just place it in my purse, which any idiot can tell you is not the smartest thing to do.
Enter the Roma Camera Insert and Bag Organizer.
The Roma is constructed of the same durable waxed canvas exterior (dubbed Waxwear) with leather details, just like the Union Street.
The interior is well-padded, and comes with an adjustable divider:
As you can seen, I had no problem whatsoever fitting my DSLR into the Roma (pictured here is a Canon Rebel T1i with the 17-55mm f/2.8 lens, which measures about 5″ long):
Here I have added my going-out essentials to the Roma: a wallet, cell phone, some makeup, and sunglasses. As you can see, the five exterior pockets — in addition to the extra room leftover on the inside — allow for plenty of space!
Lastly, a picture of the Roma inside my medium-sized purse — it fits perfectly, and I still have some room to spare!
I can’t say enough how much I love the Roma, and it seriously could not have arrived at a more perfect time, because I had been seriously thinking about purchasing an insert to protect my DSLR. 🙂

How beautiful! I usually carry it in my purse, carefully. I am constantly grabbing it out for unexpected shooting, so whatever I use has to be unobstructive!

Sadly, I tend to just wrap it in a sweatshirt and put it in my purse…
Usually just throw it in my purse. Bag would be perfect!
I carry my camera directly in my purse…no padding and all. Terrible!
I put it in a small case in my ginormous diaper bag if I don’t have too much stuff, otherwise it goes in the bottom of the stroller.
I have a separate bag for it, but find it cumbersome when i also have my own bag to carry. Sometimes i just wrap my jacket over it to put in my bag. The organizer would definitely be better.

I’m with you — scarf wrapped around the camera in my purse, unless I’m going for the fully monty with all the accessories, in which case I break out the separate (giant!) camera bag to hold everything.
The union bag looks awesome too — I’ll have to keep that one in mind when I’m brainstorming for Christmas presents for family members! 🙂
I have a purse that I made that’s big enough for the dslr, but there’s no padding or anything. Heck wrapped up in a scarf would be more than I’m doing now!
What a great product idea! I have an Epiphanie combination laptop/SLR bag that I use for long travel (i.e., flying somewhere), but I hate it for walking around because it’s so big. I also have the BUILT camera bag, but I’ve since discovered I really don’t like the cross-body style. I typically do what you do now; get from Point A to Point B in my travels with my Epiphanie bag, but then just toss my camera + lens in my purse, which I really shouldn’t do… the insert looks like the PERFECT solution!

Normally I wrap my camera in a pashmina and lay it in my purse. Love this though!! It would help SO much.
HA! I don’t even use a scarf to wrap up my camera and put it in the bag…I feel shame….I just toss it in there. Bad mommy.

Mine is kept in my big makeup bag (clean, of course) when I take it in my laptop backpack, which is definitely not the sturdiest thing!
I usually just throw my camera in my bag, sometimes with some cloth around it, so I definitely need one of these.

I used to carry my camera in my purse, but recently I bought a camera bag for longer trips, and to use when I need to take along more than just one lens. I love the Roma insert, it would be perfect!
Either a backpack or purse, depends on the occasion.
As for the ONA Facebook page, I have been a huge fan of their bags for a while now, so their page has been liked for some time. I just can’t afford the bags.
I lug my slr around in a legit camera bag and stuff my most essential purse contents in it. Its hard to be a girl with slr. 🙂

I usually hang my camera around my neck because I don’t have a cute bag like that! I’m so bad because I also don’t have the caps to my lenses… so I’m probably the worst camera owner ever!
